Trades marketplace app
Booking flow for a trades marketplace
A UK home-improvement marketplace connecting homeowners with local tradespeople partnered with CodeLeap as a development team on their mobile app. We worked on the booking flow and user experience that carries a job from posted to matched.
What we did CodeLeap built the guided job posting interface, the booking and matching flow, in-app messaging between homeowner and tradesperson, and trade onboarding.
Post a job. Find a trade. Finding a reliable builder usually means chasing recommendations, phoning round and hoping someone turns up. Our client set out to fix that with a marketplace linking homeowners who need work done to tradespeople looking for jobs nearby. CodeLeap came on as a development partner on their mobile app, working on the booking flow and user experience, covering the path a homeowner takes to describe a job and reach the right local trade, and the way new builders come onto the platform.
Product features
-
Guided job posting
Homeowners describe the work they need in a few simple steps and send it to nearby tradespeople. Endless searching and phone calls are replaced by a clear brief that trades can actually respond to.
-
Booking flow and matching
The core journey, from a posted job to the right nearby trade responding, is shaped to keep both sides moving. A request turns into an agreed job with as little friction as the two parties will allow.
-
Homeowner and trade messaging
Once a job is posted, tradespeople and homeowners talk in the app to discuss the work, agree scope and confirm details. The conversation stays attached to the job rather than scattering across texts and calls.
-
Trade onboarding
New tradespeople join the platform and set themselves up to receive local job leads. Growing the supply side is what makes the demand side work, since a homeowner posting a job needs builders available to answer it.
Challenge
A two-sided marketplace fails at whichever side gives up first. If posting a job is awkward, homeowners go back to phoning round; if leads are irrelevant or slow, tradespeople stop opening the app. The booking flow has to serve both without favouring either. Joining an existing product added its own constraint. CodeLeap came in as a development partner rather than starting from scratch, which meant working within decisions already made and improving the journey without disrupting what was already live.
Solution
CodeLeap worked on the booking flow and user experience at the centre of the app, covering guided job posting, the matching journey from posted job to responding trade, in-app messaging between both sides, and onboarding for new tradespeople joining the platform. That path is what the marketplace stands on. The work keeps it clear on both sides, with homeowners reaching local trades without the guesswork, and tradespeople getting relevant nearby leads worth answering.

WeSnagA major UK construction company ran snagging on spreadsheets, paper checklists and manual follow-ups, which could not scale to dozens of contractors, hundreds of units and thousands of defects. CodeLeap built a platform digitising the whole defect lifecycle, replacing hundreds of hours of manual coordination and leading to further work extending it.

NicheComNicheCom needed to prove that a surveyor could measure a property and produce a finished floorplan during a single site visit, without redrawing it back at a desk. CodeLeap designed and built the iPad app that makes that possible.
