Bonsai Wealth
AI-led financial advice and investing
A UK fintech founder set out to make good financial planning affordable to the people traditional advice never reaches. CodeLeap is the team that builds and ships Bonsai — the cross-platform app that brings planning, guidance and everyday money into one place.
What we did CodeLeap built the iOS and Android app with goal planning, a portfolio dashboard, an AI financial assistant and open banking integration, and designed onboarding around social login, biometrics and a guided AI chat, so advice is tailored from the first session rather than after a form most people would abandon.
Wealth planning, made simple. Bonsai Wealth is a mobile financial advisory platform that combines AI-driven guidance, open banking data and investment management tools to help people plan, manage and grow their wealth. CodeLeap designed and built the platform for iOS and Android, bringing together capabilities that ordinarily sit in separate products, and in a regulated domain where the standards for data security and accuracy leave little room for approximation. The aim throughout was to make the kind of financial guidance normally reserved for wealthy clients available to a far broader audience.
Product features
-
Smart onboarding
Account setup combines social login, biometric authentication and a guided AI chat that takes the user through defining their goals and establishing their risk profile. Getting a genuinely tailored experience in place from the first session, rather than after a form-filling exercise the user is likely to abandon, was central to the product's positioning.
-
Goal planning tools
Users create and manage short, medium and long-term financial goals supported by interactive projection tools, dynamic calculators and visual feedback that show the consequences of a decision over time. Making the trade-offs visible is what turns an abstract intention into a plan someone will actually follow.
-
Investment accounts
The platform supports ISAs, general investment accounts, junior ISAs, pensions and savings accounts, allowing users to allocate funds, manage investments and monitor performance across every account they hold in one place. Handling this range of account types, each with its own rules and constraints, accounts for a substantial part of the platform's underlying complexity.
-
Portfolio dashboard
A consolidated dashboard gives a real-time view of total portfolio value, asset allocation and investment performance, presenting a complete financial position through data visualisation clear enough for someone who is not a professional investor.
-
AI financial assistant
An integrated assistant provides personalised guidance through a conversational interface, delivering tailored recommendations, financial health scoring and ongoing insight drawn from the user's own behaviour and data. This is the element that makes advice feel available on demand rather than scheduled.
-
Open banking integration
Secure bank connectivity enables automatic expense tracking and the aggregation of financial data from across a user's accounts, which is what allows the platform's insights to be grounded in what someone actually earns and spends rather than in what they estimate.
Challenge
Traditional wealth management is largely inaccessible to most people, priced and structured for clients with substantial assets and delivered through a process that assumes a degree of financial literacy many do not have. The client set out to close that gap with a digital product, which meant building something capable of delivering genuinely personalised guidance at scale rather than generic content dressed up as advice. Three requirements made this demanding. The platform had to integrate multiple financial data sources reliably, since insight drawn from partial data is worse than none. It had to maintain regulatory-grade security across sensitive financial information and bank connectivity. And it had to present all of this through an interface simple enough for an audience that had been excluded from wealth management precisely because it felt impenetrable.
Solution
CodeLeap developed a mobile-first financial platform that combines AI-driven advisory capabilities with investment management tools and open banking integration. Conversational interfaces make guidance approachable, real-time data aggregation keeps that guidance grounded in the user's actual financial position, and intuitive dashboards give people a clear view of where they stand across every account they hold. The onboarding flow establishes goals and risk profile at the outset so that the experience is tailored from the first session, and the goal planning tools then make the effect of each decision visible over time. The result is a platform that delivers accessible, personalised financial insight to an audience conventional advisory services do not reach.

One analyst's eye, scaled. Market prediction platformA financial analysis firm had a proven chart-reading method that only one analyst could run, taking hours a day and capping how many instruments the firm could cover. CodeLeap turned that method into a machine-learning platform serving daily predictions through an API.

SBUSBU is a UK energy broker placing gas and electricity contracts for business customers, in a market where the deal goes to whoever quotes first and follows up hardest. Their chance to win each customer sat in Salesforce as a contract end date with nothing acting on it, so CodeLeap automated everything between that date and the signed contract. Within three months the team was generating five times the qualified leads, without adding headcount.

WeSnagA major UK construction company ran snagging on spreadsheets, paper checklists and manual follow-ups, which could not scale to dozens of contractors, hundreds of units and thousands of defects. CodeLeap built a platform digitising the whole defect lifecycle, replacing hundreds of hours of manual coordination and leading to further work extending it.
