Kite Insights
ESG transparency in a consumer app
A consultancy's expertise, turned into a product its clients' employees use directly.
What we did CodeLeap acted as a fully embedded partner and delivered an entirely new brand and product in under five months across iOS, Android and web, built around a Glassdoor-style journey where employees self-report anonymously and the aggregate data is visualised to make corporate climate performance comparable.
Kite Insights is a UK sustainability consultancy that advises some of the country's largest enterprises on ESG. Looking to expand towards a B2C model, they partnered with CodeLeap to design and launch Hurd, a mobile app that brings transparency to companies' sustainability practices and gives employees a voice. CodeLeap delivered the complete product across iOS, Android and web in under five months.
Product features
-
Company climate ratings
Users anonymously rate their employer's environmental performance through a guided climate questionnaire. Aggregated, anonymous data is visualised through rich insights that highlight green leaders and call out inaction.
-
Climate actions feed
Employees and teams post success stories of climate action inside their companies, from office composting programmes to net-zero campaigns. The feed celebrates real changes happening within organisations rather than corporate commitments made on paper.
-
Interactive learning modules
Users work through climate content built around practical tasks, helping professionals gain climate literacy and apply sustainable practices in their working life.
-
Community interaction
A live feed lets users explore reviews and climate initiatives from organisations worldwide, exchange knowledge and benchmark their own employer's progress against others.
-
Anonymous data handling
The platform supports anonymous reporting on corporate sustainability with secure data handling, so employees can speak freely without fear of identification.
Challenge
Kite Insights had a strong reputation advising large enterprises on sustainability strategy, but their revenue model was entirely B2B. The leadership team saw an opportunity to reach individual professionals directly, through a platform where employees could rate their employer's climate performance anonymously, share sustainability success stories and engage with learning content.
That was a significant strategic shift, from consultancy services to a consumer digital product. Kite Insights needed a technology partner who could build a new brand and product from scratch at speed, handle the complexity of anonymous data collection and visualisation, and hold the credibility expected of an ESG consultancy working with FTSE-listed clients.
Solution
CodeLeap acted as a fully embedded partner and delivered an entirely new brand and product, Hurd, in under five months. Employees self-report their experience through a Glassdoor-style journey, and the aggregate anonymous data is visualised in a way that makes corporate climate performance comparable and visible. Around that sit the actions feed, the learning modules and the community view, which give users a reason to return between ratings.
Since release, Hurd has earned five-star ratings on the app stores and attracted global interest. Within three months of launch it had reached organisations including PwC, KPMG, AXA and JP Morgan Chase & Co.
Tech stack
The tech chosen was our speciality, enabling fast development of performant user interfaces and a reliable infrastructure. Hurd is available for iOS, Android and web.

- Hurdle
Hurd is a sustainability app where employees rate their employer's climate performance, share initiatives and work through learning content, and it needed a reason for people to open it every day. CodeLeap designed and built Hurdle, the daily word puzzle inside it, which teaches sustainability vocabulary through a game format players already understand.

SBUSBU is a UK energy broker placing gas and electricity contracts for business customers, in a market where the deal goes to whoever quotes first and follows up hardest. Their chance to win each customer sat in Salesforce as a contract end date with nothing acting on it, so CodeLeap automated everything between that date and the signed contract. Within three months the team was generating five times the qualified leads, without adding headcount.

CodeLeap built a platform digitising the whole defect lifecycle, replacing hundreds of hours of manual coordination and leading to further work extending it.
