Adinkra
Cultural heritage app for a jewellery brand
Aflé Bijoux makes jewellery inspired by the Adinkra symbols of the Akan culture of Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. CodeLeap designed and built the brand's companion app — a searchable catalogue of 130 symbols, their meanings and their original Twi proverbs — and launched it on iOS and Android, with the development phase done in under a month.
What we did CodeLeap designed and built the iOS and Android app in under a month using React Native, at roughly half the cost of building separately for each platform, putting the symbol library at the centre of the product so it educates first and sells second.
Aflé Bijoux is a jewellery brand whose newest collection draws on the Adinkra symbols of the Akan culture in West Africa, a visual language in which each symbol carries a meaning and an accompanying proverb. CodeLeap built the Adinkra app to bring those symbols and their meanings to the brand's customers, creating a knowledge-led product that educates first and sells second. Built with React Native and launched on iOS and Android in under a month, the app halved the cost of mobile development while retaining native performance, allowing a small brand to put a genuinely original product in front of its audience on a modest budget.
Product features
-
Complete symbol library
The app catalogues 130 Adinkra symbols, each presented with its meaning and the proverb attached to it, giving users a browsable reference to a body of cultural knowledge that is rarely available in a single accessible place. Making the library the centre of the product rather than an accompaniment to the shop was the decision the whole app rests on.
-
Symbol-to-collection links
Each symbol links directly through to the piece of Aflé Bijoux jewellery inspired by it, so a customer who has just read what a symbol means can see it realised as an object. The route from cultural interest to commercial interest is short and feels natural rather than intrusive.
-
Custom branded design
The interface was designed around the brand's own visual identity, treating the symbols with the weight they deserve and giving the app the feel of a considered brand artefact rather than a catalogue with a wrapper.
-
Deliberately minimal interface
The app keeps its structure simple and its navigation obvious, so the symbols and their meanings occupy the screen without competing with interface furniture. For a product whose value lies in its content, restraint in the design was itself a feature.
-
Cross-platform delivery on a fixed budget
Building in React Native allowed a single codebase to serve both iOS and Android, cutting mobile development costs by roughly half without a visible compromise in performance, which is what made the project viable at the scale the brand needed.
Challenge
Aflé Bijoux approached CodeLeap to promote a new jewellery collection inspired by traditional Adinkra symbolism, but a conventional shopping app would have missed the point of the collection entirely. The value of the pieces lies in what the symbols mean, and that meaning needed to be communicated before any commercial message would land. The brief was therefore to build something centred on the symbols and their proverbs while connecting them to the collection they inspired. The practical constraint was equally clear, since a brand of this size could not fund a lengthy dual-platform build, so the work had to be delivered quickly and inexpensively without producing something that felt cheap alongside a premium product.
Solution
CodeLeap developed and launched the Adinkra app for iOS and Android in less than a month, using React Native to keep the cost and timeline within reach of the brand while maintaining native-quality performance. The result is a knowledge-based application built around a library of 130 symbols, each with its meaning and proverb, linked directly to the corresponding pieces in the Aflé Bijoux collection. Beyond serving the brand's commercial aim, the app contributes to the preservation and circulation of Adinkra knowledge, giving the collection a context that a product listing could never provide.

Maaya brings social networking and e-commerce together, so people follow the brands and creators they already pay attention to and buy what appears in the feed. CodeLeap built the app for iOS and Android, keeping the commerce from spoiling the social experience and the social layer from obscuring the commerce.

SBUSBU is a UK energy broker placing gas and electricity contracts for business customers, in a market where the deal goes to whoever quotes first and follows up hardest. Their chance to win each customer sat in Salesforce as a contract end date with nothing acting on it, so CodeLeap automated everything between that date and the signed contract. Within three months the team was generating five times the qualified leads, without adding headcount.

WeSnagA major UK construction company ran snagging on spreadsheets, paper checklists and manual follow-ups, which could not scale to dozens of contractors, hundreds of units and thousands of defects. CodeLeap built a platform digitising the whole defect lifecycle, replacing hundreds of hours of manual coordination and leading to further work extending it.
