One Place

Event, trip and group planning brought into a single mobile app

A UK startup came to CodeLeap to build the app behind its product: one place to plan a group trip or event, pulling travel, accommodation, the agenda, the guest list and every to-do into a single mobile experience for iOS and Android.

What we did CodeLeap designed and built the whole iOS and Android app and backend, and runs its ongoing maintenance and new features.

One Place — Mobile app case study One Place

One Place is a consumer mobile application that gives people a single place to organise the events in their lives, from family gatherings and group holidays to weekends away and social occasions. CodeLeap designed and built the app for both iOS and Android, bringing together the details that usually end up scattered across group chats, booking confirmations and shared documents into one clear, structured view. Since launching, One Place has reached a 4.8-star rating on the App Store from its earliest reviews and has been downloaded thousands of times across both app stores.

Product features

  • Event Creation

Users begin by creating an event and defining the details that matter most to it, including where it is happening, where everyone is staying and how many people are coming. Bringing these decisions together at the point of creation gives every event a solid structure from the outset, so the plan has a shape to it before the group starts filling in the detail.

  • Accommodation Planning

Accommodation options can be organised and attached directly to the event they belong to, so that everyone attending can see where the group is staying without having to search back through messages or forwarded confirmations. For trips where accommodation is the single largest source of questions and uncertainty, having it held against the event itself removes a great deal of repeated explaining.

  • Location Management

Every event carries a defined place, which anchors the logistics for everyone involved and gives the group a common reference point for travel, timings and meeting arrangements. This significantly reduces the confusion that arises when different people are working from slightly different assumptions about where they are meant to be.

  • Participant Tracking

Organisers can specify and manage the number of people attending, giving them a reliable basis for the decisions that depend on numbers, whether that is the size of a booking, the cost per person or the practicalities of getting everyone together. Numbers change constantly during group planning, and holding them in one authoritative place keeps the rest of the plan aligned with reality.

  • Centralised Overview

All of an event's details sit together in a single structured view, so the organiser and the group can see the whole picture at a glance rather than assembling it from memory. This is the heart of the product, and it is what allows One Place to replace the patchwork of chat threads, notes apps and screenshots that group planning usually relies on.

  • Considered Mobile Experience

The app was designed to be genuinely quick to use on a phone, since group planning happens in short bursts through the day rather than at a desk. The interface keeps the number of steps to a minimum and makes the common actions immediately obvious, which is reflected in the strength of the early user ratings.

Challenge

Organising anything with a group of people is a problem that almost everyone recognises and very few tools address well. The information that makes up a plan tends to live in several places at once, with the location agreed in one conversation, the accommodation booked and confirmed by email to one person, the guest list evolving across a chat thread, and the whole picture existing only in the organiser's head. The client saw an opportunity to bring these elements together, but the difficulty lay in doing so without over-complicating the product. Planning tools of this kind fail in one of two directions, either by being so lightweight that they add nothing to a group chat, or by demanding so much structure and setup that people abandon them before the plan is made. The brief called for something simple enough to be used for a weekend away with friends, yet flexible enough to hold a family gathering or a longer travel itinerary, and polished enough to compete for attention on a consumer app store.

Solution

CodeLeap developed One Place as a mobile-first product built around a single clear idea, which is that an event should have one home rather than several. We focused the design on the three elements that carry the most planning weight, namely location, accommodation and participants, and brought them together in an interface that makes each one quick to set and easy for the whole group to see. The emphasis throughout development was on keeping the experience light, because the value of a product like this depends entirely on people actually reaching for it in the moment. Delivered natively for both iOS and Android, the app went live to a strong reception, holding a 4.8-star rating on the App Store from launch and accumulating thousands of downloads across both platforms, which suggests the balance between simplicity and usefulness landed where it needed to.
